Born from Real-World Experience in Asset Management
"There has to be a better way."
That was the thought running through my mind after yet another day of jumping between five different systems just to answer one question: "When should we replace this equipment?" I was managing millions in municipal infrastructure, drowning in spreadsheets, fighting with legacy CMMS software that felt like it was built in the 90s, and manually copying data between disconnected planning tools.
The breaking point? Missing a critical equipment failure because the maintenance schedule lived in one system, the condition assessment in another, and the budget forecast in a third. Sound familiar?
AssetLab was born from that determination to do better. I'd spent years on the operations side of asset management - working alongside facility managers, asset planners, and the engineers who keep infrastructure running - and I kept coming back to the same vision: build the system I always wished existed. I've lived through the audits, the emergency repairs, the budget battles, and the "why didn't anyone tell me?" moments - and I built AssetLab so the next person doesn't have to.

The idea for AssetLab is born from firsthand experience with the pain of managing infrastructure across disconnected systems. Concept validation and market research begin.
Foundation & Development
Building the core platform - combining CMMS work orders, preventive maintenance scheduling, and strategic asset replacement planning in one unified solution.
Incorporation in North Vancouver
AssetLab officially incorporated in North Vancouver, BC - establishing the foundation for growth and securing Canadian data residency for all customers.
Beta Program Launch
Selective beta with 5 partner organizations across different sectors - real-world testing, feedback, and platform refinement with early adopters.
Public Launch
Official public launch with the full feature set: asset management, work orders, PM scheduling, condition assessments, and 20-year capital forecasting.
API Gateway & Enterprise Features
Shipped the external API gateway, site-scoped user groups, the Enterprise plan tier, a per-site FCI locations dashboard, and universal import/export.
Projects, Benchmarking & Collaboration
Launched the Projects module (budgets, costs, Gantt, team tracking), FCI benchmarking with 20-year forecasting, vendor work-order sharing, and Microsoft SSO.
Vendor Management & AI Integrations
Added multi-category vendor management, scoped API keys with an interactive docs portal, the drag-and-drop Asset Canvas, and an MCP server for AI assistants like Claude.
GIS & Linear Assets
Launched GIS mapping and linear infrastructure support - roads, watermains, and sewers with spatial tracking and segmented condition assessments.
Mobile Apps, Forms & Self-Serve SSO
Launched native iOS and Android apps on the App Store and Google Play, plus forms and inspections with conditional items and photo answers, shared work order links for contractors, two-way conversations on work requests, self-serve SSO (Okta, Entra, Google, SAML/OIDC), Esri overlays on the map, and a public status page.
Work Orders on the Map, Email Intake & Report Builder
Work orders on the map with technician day plans and route building, routes and corridors as tiers of the Infrastructure page, work requests by email, a rebuilt report builder with 30 data sources, an onboarding Excel workbook, and a documentation site with an interactive API reference.
Public Works Mobile App
Planned: a dedicated mobile experience for public works crews - inspect roads, watermains, and sewers in the field, capture GPS-tagged photos and defects, and close infrastructure work orders on site.
SCADA Integration
Planned: connect SCADA and building automation systems to AssetLab so live equipment telemetry - runtime hours, alarms, and sensor readings - flows against the matching asset record, triggering condition-based work orders and feeding runtime into preventive maintenance and replacement forecasting.
SOC 2 Type II & ISO 27001
Planned: begin formal SOC 2 Type II and ISO 27001 certification work for AssetLab itself - control mapping, evidence collection, and third-party audit - building on the SOC 2 Type II certified infrastructure the platform already runs on.

Canadian Data Residency
Canadian-hosted infrastructure. Your core application data stays in Canada, supporting PIPEDA-aligned privacy practices and data sovereignty.
Enterprise Encryption
AES-256 encryption at rest and TLS 1.3 in transit, with role-based access controls and audit logging.
Published Security Controls
Our security practices are documented in a public Trust Center - hosting, encryption, access, and the providers we build on, which hold SOC 2 Type II attestations.
Availability SLA
Managed infrastructure with automated backups, redundancy, and documented disaster recovery. A 99.5% monthly availability commitment backed by service credits is available on Enterprise subscriptions where the order form incorporates the AssetLab Service Level Agreement. Other plans carry no contractual uptime SLA.
Automatic Backups
Daily automated backups from the managed data tier, plus nightly encrypted offsite copies to a separate provider in AWS ca-central-1. Point-in-time recovery is available from the data-tier provider and is not presently enabled, so the recovery point objective is up to 24 hours.
Enterprise Authentication
SSO integration, verified domains, passkeys, and passwordless authentication options.
